Duke Nukem Forever to Finally Hit the Shelves

Could we about to finally see Duke Nukem Forever? After all, we have only been waiting since 1997, haven’t we?

The story begins back in 1996 with the release of the first Duke Nukem title. The following year Bill Clinton started his second term, Princess Di was killed and there was talk of a follow up to Duke Nukem. And then…well, not much really apart from more talk, promotions and yet more talk.

The title has become legendary in gaming circles as the one which never was and never will be. And yet here we are, in 2011, looking at a June 24 release date. Pre order customers can expect a demo on the 3rd of June and it looks as though it is really going to happen. The demo will be all on supported platforms. There is even talk of a luxury Balls of Steel edition of the game.

The President of 2K Games is called Christoph Hartmann and he was unsurprisingly ecstatic when he announced that “we are on the precipice of history”. He worked himself up into even more of a lather saying that it is an “amazing day in the annals of gaming lore” and that the “legend of Duke Nukem Forever is finally complete”.

Now all we need is for the game to actually be rather good. Can you imagine waiting a decade and a half and then finding out that it is pretty rubbish? Come on 2K and Duke, don’t let us down.

Are you planning to buy Duke Nukem Forever and did you manage to play the demo at the Gadget Show Live back in February?
