A new camera is being released by GoPro, and this one promises to be smaller and lighter that anything that they have brought out before now.
The company is the market leader for action-cams and they have reported sales of over £233 million in just the first quarter of the year.
The new model is called the Hero4 Session and it has some interesting features. For instance, it is waterproof without the need to use it with a special case. However, it isn’t waterproof to the same depths as those models that use special cases and separate housings.
In terms of the specifics, the word from GoPro is that the new model is 50% smaller than the firm’s other cams, as well as being 40% lighter. The brand new dual microphone system is also said to cut out wind noise better. At £330 it is the second most expensive GoPro model, behind the Hero4 Black.
Films up to 33 Feet Underwater
The Hero4 Session can record with a maximum resolution of 1080p and can get down to a maximum of 33 feet (10 metres) underwater. Those GoPro cams that come with separate waterproof casings can go 4 times as deep.
In this new model, there is no LCD touchscreen. Instead, it is operated through a single button. Having said that, there is also the option of controlling it through that an add-on remote control or else doing it through a smartphone app if you prefer.
The idea seems to be that the compact size is aimed at those people who use an action-cam on a regular basis. Nicholas Woodman is the founder of GoPro and he said that they wanted to produce the “smallest, lightest most convenient” model of camcorder possible. He went on to say that they are excited about what he called the “stunning audio advancements” on this model.
