Imobsters for the iphone strategy guide

Posted on Oct 27 2009 - 2:32pm by Richard Sharp

imobstersIMobsters is the latest in a string of mafia themed text-based RPGs for the iPhone and arguably the least original, but it still has some interesting features which makes it stand out from the crowd (which includes iMafia, Mafia Live, Undead Live and Rockstar Live!). Unlike many of its competitors, IMobsters is actually pretty tricky and you have to be on the ball from the start to really give yourself a chance at becoming the biggest Don!

A handy tutorial is provided to all new players once you start and can be found at the very top of the iMobster display. In this box there should be a list of certain actions you can try, with six steps to follow in total. Completing this tutorial is essential and will really help you get the feel of the game and what to do, fast.
The six steps of the tutorial includes basic information on the Missions, Equipment, Attacking and Levelling Up. It doesn’t take long to complete these and once you’ve finished you should be rewarded with five thousand dollars and the disconcerting message that one of your mafia relatives has tried to have you “whacked”! Time for revenge, I feel, so give yourself a proper mafia name and select a class for your character so we can teach him a lesson.

Classes
Choose your class carefully, as once you have made your choice you can only change if via loyalty points or resetting your character! Current classes include:
Tycoon – Allows you to gain cash faster
Muscle – Lets you heal faster
Operative – Allows you to gain energy faster.
Each of these classes has their benefits, but arguably Tycoon is the best as it will let you earn money much faster. Money is very important in the iMobsters world and you will need to get a lot of it, fast, to buy your first piece of profitable real estate! Although you can earn some money by fighting in the attack mode, or performing missions, this will not be enough to sustain yourself effectively. Once you’ve levelled up you can buy bigger and better properties and weapons – but these come at a high price tag!

The Basics

Character Status
The current condition of your character can always be seen on your main screen. These should include:
Cash – How much cash you are carrying
Experience – How experienced you are (in points) and how many more points you will need to level up.
Level – The current level of your character
Energy – You need energy to complete missions, which slowly regenerates on a timer.
Stamina – Each time you attack another player you will use one stamina point. This also regenerates on a timer.

Time
Even if you are not playing iMobsters, the game continues without you. As time passes, your character will regain health, stamina and energy until they reach the maximum. You will also receive cash from your Real Estate on a set timer.

Level
Each time you level up, your character will gain skill points and a full recharge of all your energy, health and stamina points. Levelling up also will unlock more Missions, Equipment and Real Estate. You level up by earning Experience points from attacking other players, successfully defending an attack from another player and completing Missions.

Skills
There are five types of skill available in iMobster. These include:
Attack – Makes you stronger when attacking other players.
Defence – Allows you to successfully defend more attacks.
Max Energy – Increases your maximum Energy points.
Max Stamina – Increases your maximum Stamina points.
Max Health – Increases your maximum Health points.

Each time you level up you will be awarded with three skills points, which can be spent increasing any of the above skills.

Money
When you first start playing, even if you did complete the tutorial, you will have a very small amount of money. As mentioned above, money really does ‘make the world go round’ in iMobsters, so you will have to perform some simple missions just to get some cash. Try and earn an extra two or three thousand dollars by performing some Muggings or Petty Thefts. Of course, you can try some of the harder missions right away, but this will require you to buy a weapon and will mean you have less cash to buy your first valuable piece of real estate.
As soon and you have your first couple of grand, buy a New Stand. Although the $50 an hour return may not seem like much, it’s a good first step. Keep buying News Stands until you have about four of them – you may notice their price rising each time and after four they’re no longer the best option.

Patience is a virtue in iMobsters, so kick back, relax and wait for your News Stands to make you some cash. After some time, you should have enough to buy a Shack and you should buy three of four of these the same way as you did with the News Stands. Next up is Convenience Stores! This strategy should earn you a fantastic base of real estate with little risk – which means you can save up for those fantastic-looking weapons you’ve had you eye on! With a Tycoon character and this method of play, you shouldn’t need to do many of those low-level missions and by level 4 or 5 you should have an enviable portfolio.

Part of The Family
It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there and to ensure you don’t get whacked too often, you’ll need a strong family. iMobsters allows you to group up with other iMobster players and become stronger and more protected – and less of a target for more experienced players. To be added to a Mob or add members to your Mob, you’ll need your Mob Code.

Mob Codes
Mob Codes are a 5 digit code that are used to add people to your mob and it is essential you use these as much as possible. Don’t be shy, add as many people as possible! Be aware, however, that as soon as you begin posting your Mob Code you will get a huge amount of requests in return. At present, it’s impossible to accept all of these requests in one go, like you can in other iPhone mafia games such as iMob Online or Mafia Wars. Each request must be dealt with individually and this can take a long time to do, so be prepared to suffer for a huge and powerful mob! To deal with this, I recommend that new users keep a close eye on their iMobsters game and check it frequently – so you can accept a manageable amount of requests bit by bit rather than having to deal with several hundred at once after an absence!

Starting Your Mob
Adding to a mob can be tricky, so here is a step-by-step guide on quickly bringing your gang together. Start on the Home tab which is on the bottom task bar. From there, go to ‘My Mob’, which can be found in the middle of the Home display at the very top of the column on the right side. Once My Mob is selected, you should be given some options on how to add people to your mob. The easiest way is by the Mob Code, of course, so use the top option to invite someone using their 5 digit Mob Code.

Each Mob Code is completely unique, making it ideal to post and share wherever you can to get the biggest mob possible. Try and post your code on plenty of iMobster forums and encourage your friends to do the same to ensure you get plenty of invites.

Equipment
Although equipment is very important in iMobsters, all your early money should mostly go towards buying Real Estate (See ‘Money’ section). A good strategy is to buy just enough good equipment to perform some Missions and win fights, but keep a good chunk for your investments. Although it may seem tempting to blow all your cash on cool equipment to do those tempting missions, later on in the iMobster game the money you will receive from Missions will seem petty in comparison to the huge cash that can be made with Real Estate!

Bank
iMobsters isn’t a sweet, sedate game where all players get along and you will quickly become a target for other players to try and destroy! Players can earn money, credit and experience for fighting other players, so financially you will always be at risk. Bigger and better players will often target new players and you will often lose a huge chunk of your hard-earned cash this way. Help is at hand, however, in the form of the iMobsters bank.

The bank can be found by going to the main Home page and selecting the left-hand column – under Godfather and above Hospital. Once inside, you’ll see your current balance in the bank displayed at the very top of the screen, with a text box just below prompting you deposit. In this box you can enter an amount of iMobster money to deposit – by default the game will often have the complete contents of your wallet.

Although you may rush to deposit all of your cash into the safe space of the bank, hold on a second. A ten percent fee is applied on all of the money that you deposit, which can often be a fair chunk of cash. Think carefully if you can hold onto your money without sacrificing your fee – an early player is often a target for thieves, but a more advanced player may not need to use the bank at all.

Always buy the best equipment for your mob, but remember: never buy more than 5 x your level of equipment. Read the FAQ why, and read the txt above the list with equipment to buy. Just read everything carefully, if you don’t you won’t survive. I’m lvl 16, I make 70 mil / 50 mins. And join a family, like RUSSIAN MOB. Add me SRKU35 ??

HOW DO YOU JOIN A FAM??

      • gadgetsandgizmos March 4, 2011 at 9:47 pm - Reply

You have to either find one and request inclusion, usually with tasks involved or get invited. Look for people with symbols in their name, this is a good indication of a family. Then look through comments, there are literally hundreds some of which use instant messaging services like palringo to keep in contact. Hope this helps.Kind regardsRichard sharpSent from my iPhone

Investing in defense is an absolutely terrible strategy. If you are serious about gaining LEVELS and EXPERIENCE, the point of the game, then you should be putting all of your skill points in ATTACK, not DEFENSE. Why would you be putting skill points into defense when you're banking your money anyways. The real money in this game comes from attacking other mobs, not from real estate. You can usually make enough money from 1-3 fights (6 minutes tops) to earn as much as you would sitting on your real estate for 50 or 60 minutes. It is NEVER ok to sit on full energy just as it is NEVER ok to sit on full stamina. Every minute you have either of those full is a minute wasted and a minute behind you get in the game when compared to a serious player. The key to success is to always have the best item in attack for weapon, protection, and vehicle for each member of your mob (which should never be any bigger than absolutely necessary to perform the missions you are on). If you have the top attack item for each member in your mob, you will win just about every single time you attack someone, resulting in FAR more money and experience than you get from doing missions and your hourly income. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO RAISE YOUR UPKEEP. I cannot believe it is suggested to only use 20% of your income for upkeep. How can you afford to have the best equipment doing that? And no wonder you're too cheap to own entourage members, which are crucial to winning fights. Sure it's annoying to replace them, but they're cheap and will easily pay for themselves if you're winning 25-30 fights an hour. This is the fastest way to level up and for sure the least boring. Also, you will never be broke with this strategy. What I do is first, but all top items for my current level. Then, I attack people nonstop until I have a lot of money in the bank at which time I then buy a bunch of property. I keep repeating this process until I'm close to unlocking a new item, then I will save money in the bank and use it to buy the new best item (in attack only, defense is worthless). Once I have the best item for each member in my mob, I repeat the process of saving up and buying property until the next item comes along. Also, I sell off all of the previous item to help pay for the new one, so it really doesn't even cost much to upgrade. The reason I say not to put anything into defense is because if you're banking your money, then you are already paying 10% to protect your cash (which I recommend). The way I think of it is that if I'm already paying 10% for this, why should I then invest important skill points into defense which in reality isn't even protecting anything for me since I have no money laying around to be taken. Sure, you gain 1 or 2 experience when you win a fight on defense, but is it really worth it? I'd much rather invest that skill into ATTACK and be getting between 2 and 5 experience each time PLUS lots of money, which is used to buy property and top equipment. So in summary, focus everything into attack (skill points and equipment) and don't waste skill points on defense or on having a second set of items just because they have better defense than the item with top attack. Talk about a waste of net income. Have one set of items for each of the 3 groups and attack nonstop. Don't worry about your net income, just make sure it's big enough to support your equipment and increase your mob size when absolutely necessary. You will see your net income gradually increase even though you consistently are buying real estate and the top equipment. This is because attacking people is WAY MORE PROFITABLE than relying on your net income, and it gives you EXPERIENCE and LEVELS. What does having a high net income give you? Money that you have to wait a long time for and that decreases once you start buying serious equipment and growing. Put in your time, attack, and your winnings will pay for themselves plus leave you with enough to buy tons of real estate. Thanks for reading and good luck

I personally invested in defense so that I dont loose all my cash to random farmers/campers. I've lost a mil or so, BUT I rely on my Real Estate, which is working out pretty well. I've only lost 114 out of 459, and 1 of those deaths was cuz I was hit listed >_>

I agree with Mobster..the game is more fun if you use your poinst for attack….no hourly income from properties can match the amount of money you can bring in from fights. Every 20 minutes I can bring in roughly 40-50 million in revenue from fights and put them straight into property. BANK BANK BANK!!! no matter the 10% you will always lose more is you have your money sitting out..

Camping and waiting for cash is not my style…..attack attack attack…..
    Have some mercy sometimes….he he

I actually disagree about the attack, attack, attack method. Income is a crucial factor of the game. Even though by using this method you will level up fast, you will eventually find that everyone around you is much stronger becuase you have rushed in far too quick. And when your not on the game, you cant be attacking people, but people can be attacking you, thats also why i disagree with your method because you will need DEFENSE. So by being patient and camping for a month you can buy the best defense equipment, the best attack equipment and still have a steady cash income even though you have bought hundereds of the best stuff. Also, in my oppinion, level 35 and 50 are some points where you should camp, but if you start being hitlisted or farmed this is where it would be a good idea to search for a fam. A fam will protect you in times like these just like you would protect them when they are in trouble. If your having trouble finding a family add my link – X469JM – and i will help out. :D.

The question is, why would people need to worry about being attacked when Net Income = or close to Expense ?

I like the attack strategy because I can stop anytime I want instead of checking the bank every hour. Just me 🙂

So I spent 3 days playing this game. (Hardcore). My conclusion is, it really doesn't matter 😛 It all depends on how frequent you need to find something to do. In my case, I have an addictive personality. Actually I didn't even know that I chose operative until I read this page. No matter which class you choose, you will always end up the same 🙂 Only takes longer if you rely on RE income. Took me 3 days to call it quits.

    It was fun though.

I started playing this game about a week to 10 days ago and have already reached level 50 (been playing a fair amount). I agree with Mobster about being aggressive; attacking brings hordes of cash. Some people refer to that as "farming" and they will put you on the hit list…so what. The game is called iMOBSTERS, not iLETSBEFRIENDS. I think when I stopped playing today I had a negative cash flow of around -$3,000,000…again…so what; I've got over $300,000,000 in the bank and all of the BEST equipment for my mob. I keep the mob size in check until I can afford to bring in and outfit more members (don’t rush to make your mob huge…it’s expensive). I also make getting the best weapons, protection and vehicles the priority. When that's set, I attack the buh geez us out of people with a slightly smaller mob in the same level. I almost always win, but when I don't (rare), I just move on. Attack someone with no cash…just move on. (continued)

Everyone can have their own strategy. Attacking is great when you first start the game. But after you get over level 50 its all about real estate income. At level 70 I had over 200 mil pouring in every 45 minutes. I dont always buy the latest and great equipment because it drains your income.

I guess i dont play all out mobster. But I do have a ton of money coming in. And everyone i spectate on my level never has as much high end real estate as i do. I can let the game work for me and i make money while im not even playing the game.
