New Years Eve is very nearly upon us and millions of people will be turning their eyes to the capital cities around the world with New York being one of the prime destinations for revellers and news crews. Wouldn’t it be great to be there? Even people in the UK would dream of flying to NY to spend New Years Eve in the heart of Times Square – thankfully you could get the next best thing for absolutely free.
The Times Square Alliance (cool name) has come up with a completely free app for iOS and Android that allows users to view special features, entertainment and the lights, sights and sounds of Times Square for a full six and a half hours before the start of the New Year. They have partnered with electronics giant Toshiba and Livestream to create the very first official app featuring the most famous ‘golden ball’ countdown in the world.
The app will include a 6 hour and 30 minute ‘webcast’ of the festivities in Times Square to include the countdown and live music from Taio Cruz and other artists. Users will also be able to send in photos of themselves to be displayed on a sign mounted below the Times Square Ball – putting them right in the thick of the action.
Once all the festivities are over the app will continue to function as a web camera, providing users with a direct link to Times Square as well as giving them interesting information about the most famous ‘crossroads of the world’.
You can download the app free for your iPhone, iOS device or Android device. Happy New Year.
