Nifty MiniDrive Expands MacBook Storage Covertly

Kickstarter has been the breeding ground for great things over the past year or two but none of the projects has excited us as much this awesome little gadget from Nifty. They’ve quite possibly solved Apple MacBook and Air owners storage conundrum in one fell swoop!

Obviously the simple solution is to grab a large capacity SD card and shove it in the side of your new machine. The problem with this is that the SD overhangs, looks terrible and can easily get snagged when moving the machine.

The Nifty MiniDrive is a clever little shuttle which can hold a micro SD card and once inserted into your machine runs flush with the outside edge. They’ve gone all out with the design too, producing solid prototypes with clever inbuilt circuitry to work the conversion. The outside edge of each MiniDrive is machined from high grade aluminium, the same material used for MacBooks so it will fit it seamlessly.

If you’d prefer for your MiniDrive to standout you can choose from a range of different colors when it is released later this year. The official KickStarter page says Pledges will receive their drives in November, but the website only offers updates via email for regular customers. So just how popular will the MicroDrive be? Judging by the initial project, very! The project had managed to overfund by 1000% with a month to go, raising almost $385,000 at the time of writing.

Here’s the original video from Piers and Steve. What do you think, will you buy one?
