Nintendo has confirmed that the 3DS Slide Pad Expansion accessory for the Nintendo 3DS will be released in Japan before the year ends, on December 10.

The 3DS Slide Pad, which was leaked by Famitsu, a Japanese gaming magazine, last week, features an additional analog stick to the right side of the console. The leak got everyone in the industry speculating about the future of the device and its upcoming titles. The accessory will be compatible with games like Resident Evil: Revelations, Monster Hunter 3G, Ace Combat 3D Cross Rumble, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Dynasty Warriors.

In the Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo took the stage to announce a number of new products, including the upgraded online distribution and the new features of 3D video recording. The company failed to announce the 3DS accessory, which just appeared on the company’s website.

Early 3DS adopters will not be happy that this add-on costs 1500 yen after paying for the 3DS, or that a complete redesign for the handheld will cost the company less. The 3DS Slide Pad also requires its own AAA-sized battery to run.

The 3DS Slide Pad will be released alongside the highly-anticipated Monster Hunter 3G game and will come as an optional bundle for an extra 1000 Yen.

No word when the Nintendo 3DS add-on will be launched in the United States and the United Kingdom. However, the standard operating procedure of the company states that when it releases something in Japan, it will be released in the US and Europe a number of months later, meaning that the 3DS Slide Pad will be hitting stores in 2012.
