Sony Corp.’s announcement of a price cut on the PlayStation 3 resulted in a significant increase in the gaming console’s sales in the United Kingdom. It is also predicted that the sales will continue to increase thanks to a 5,000 run of six-sheet poster ads scheduled to hit the High Streets today.
The price decrease has brought down the cost of the 160 GB model of the PlayStation 3 from $300 to $250; with the price of the premium 320 GB version going down to $300 from $350.
While both GameStop and Target reported that the price cut has brought an improvement in the sales of the console in the United States, one retailer in the UK said that the effect of the price decrease has been so remarkable that its sales have increased to a whopping 65 percent.
The company is hoping that the sales of the PlayStation 3 console is set to increase further next week with the release of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a cyberpunk-themed first-person shooting game, this Friday that will mark the start of the holiday shopping season.
The new Deus Ex game will be a multi-platform release, the first time a game from the franchise to hit consoles.
With a new and better price of the console and a new marketing campaign, it’s going to be a promising time for Sony’s sales records. Experts believe that the PlayStation 3 price cuts may be an indication that a successor may be announced.
