Playstation Network Still Down for some; Others Cash in Freebies

Sony has made two posts today about their Playstation Network, not to announce the PSN downtime but instead to proclaim that the network and store are both back online and ready to use. The only problem with both these posts was that both were untrue, the UK and other areas of the world are still facing PSN and Plasystation store issues.

latest post by Sony used the title, ‘Welcome back to Online gaming’ with these cheery chaps used on the banner. An earlier post explained “Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) have announced that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) have restored all PlayStation Network services as of 2 June 2011, in Europe/PAL territories.”

Since then the PSN has been up and down like a yo-yo, at the time of writing the official Sony site was showing the entire network was down. Unlike last months troubles this is probably attributed to the sheer number of people logging on to collect their freebies, which is why the re-launch of the Playstation Store was staggered – obviously this hans’t worked.

The problem clearly isn’t affecting every user, a quick search on Twitter shows that some users can access PSN services whilst others are being held up by other problems. These include being unable to change their password, facing store issues or receiving ‘down for maintenance’ messages when trying to login.

Are you still facing issues or PSN downtime? If so, let us know which issue and where in the world you are.

  • Hi, my son was very excited to find the store back today. I agreed to put £15 on for him to buy some fifa players. Guess what ? They took 6 x £15!! Thats £90- I still havn't been able to resolve it so beware! If you see an error page don't keep trying, I hate to think what I could have spent!

  • im trying to make a new acount for the psp go im going to get in the mail in a few days and i keep getting the error message, anyone have any ideas?

  • not class action time, he needs to contact his credit card company because even tho the error came up he tried to refresh inturn charging his card an extra five more times.I hope you get it fixed. Also Mike, this is no case for a class action suit they would just toss it out.

  • I'm in the United Kingdom, and still the PSN is down!! I can't change my password, so I can't log in!
This is starting to annoy me now!!

  • In the U.S. just came back from serving my country and all I want to do is catch up on my Netflix queue but can I??? Nope because regardless of what they say I still can't change my password or get into the network at all! Not to mentioned I figured I would call and see if they have a better explanation at Sony...but guess what I am still on hold estimate wait time is 12 minutes...lets see what these under paid wanna be geeks have to say!

  • I bought an Xbox a few months back when this issue first occurred. It's a really cool system, and I'm wondering now why I ever got propagated to by a sony product.

  • I live in Eastern USA and I still keep getting the "site under maintenance" message! This come on when i try to sign in or click join or even posting a comment in the forum. Absolutely ridiculous...I'm going to switch to xbox when the new one comes out.
