PS3 and Playstation Move Will Out Sell XBOX 360 and Kinect

Posted on Nov 6 2010 - 4:32pm by Richard Sharp

Christmas is quickly approaching with gadget battle lines drawn across all sectors, one of the biggest will be Sony Vs Microsoft with their PS3 and XBOX 360 consoles, however if a survey by Kelkoo is accurate it seems that the result is a forgone conclusion.

According to the survey 1.8 million consoles will be sold on the run up to Christmas, of the 1.8 million an estimated 41% (that’s 750,000) Playstaion 3’s will be sold. In contrast the report said 23% of the overall sales will be attributed to the XBOX 360.

What's your favourite?

If the information is accurate then this will be first time since 2006 that has not been topped by Nintendo with their ever popular Wii console. The Kelkoo research has suggested total Wii sales will take around 36% of market share during the festive season. This is probably due to the introduction of the Playstation move and Microsoft  XBOX Kinect motion devices.

The Kinect and PS3 Move are obviously in direct competition with each other. The report predicted again Sony will triumph with 850,000 sales of the PS3 Move compared to the 750,000 units predicted for the Microsoft Kinect.

Taking into account that Xbox 360 has smashed PS3 in sales since the start, it's not shocking that more and more people need to catch up and buy PS3's.

Hmmm, XBOX 360 has been the top selling console for several months, and the Kinect was just released. Kinect has much broader appeal than PS3's Move controller. Personally, I think I'd enjoy the Move controller more based on what I understand is incredible accuracy, but the fact is that casual gamers would rather just jump around and not have to hold onto anything. I would bet a lot of money that Kelkoo is wrong, and that XBOX 360 will easily top both the PS3 and Wii this holiday season.

Every month similar articles come out claiming that the PS3 will win in the end of this generations console battle. Isn't it time that we all take a step back and take in the reality of the situation?

The 360 has been beating out the Wii and the PS3 for a few months now without the introduction of the Kinect while the Move has been out the whole time. Obviously this means that gamers as a whole have finally decided that the 360 is superior to either console. Now the Kinect comes around to bring in not only the casual gamers but the masses of out of shape women and men who are looking for any way to get themselves in shape. This means that all the past Wii sales will now become 360 sales and double or triple the current monthly sales for Microsoft.

Before you bother replying…please go by your nearest Best Buy or Walmart and check out a Kinect demo to see for yourself how amazing the product is. Regardless if you believe you are to lazy to get up off the couch and play it, you can't deny that kids are going to absolutely love it.

By the initial sales of the Wii showed that the kids are where the money is at and the parents will buy it just because the kids want it. Once it is in the living room the whole family will play it when friends and other family members come by for partys and get togethers which will further explode the number of sales of both Kinnect and 360.

Remember reading it here folks…the Kinnect is the absolute game changer that the 360 needed to win the console war of this generation. The war is over as of this month and nothing Sony or Nintendo does will change the fact that Microsoft is now the king of gaming in the living room!!!

    @Reality Check,

Looks like you need a reality check, since your facts are completely wrong.

The reason that the Xbox 360 has seen an increase in sales in the past few months is not because "gamers as a whole have finally decided that the 360 is superior to either console", it's because the Xbox 360 'slim' was released. The PS3 saw a similar sales bump when they released their slim PS3, and as someone who owns 4 Xbox 360's, I can tell you that the Xbox 360 was far more in need of a redesign, and the inclusion of wifi as well as finally putting to rest the horrible original design that was extremely prone to overheating, many of the Xbox 360 'slim' sales were to people like me, trading in problematic older units.

But regardless of this fact, the main problem with your argument is that the PS3 is actually outselling the Xbox 360 currently. As a matter of fact, the PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 every year since it was launched, and it continues to do so this year.

The number are very close, and the Kinect and the Move will most definitely decide which platform outsells the other going forward. I do own the Move and the Kinect, and while I'm not a big fan of motion gaming in general, I do feel that Microsoft made a mistake with the Kinect. It is incredibly fun to play, no question – but the problem with the Kinect is that it is fatally limited in what it can and can't do. Even assuming that lag and recognition failures were 100% fixed in the future with software updates, the complete lack of buttons ensures that Kinect games will never be more than party type games, dance games and simple arcade type games. So, while I do believe that the Kinect will outsell the Move this holiday season, I don't feel it will be the game changing platform that Microsoft is betting on. I also believe that it would benefit greatly if they were to add a wii type controller, and would be shocked if one wasn't released in the future.

Until then, the Kinect will never be nothing more than a gimmick.

Flagg you just failed go to hardware annual summary and you will see that the Xbox outsold the PS3 in 2006, 2007 and 2008. You know you fail when you reference a site and fail to check yourself, or maybe you did and you epic failed even so. You are a failure go play Killzone on your shit console. 🙂

Uhh no, PS3 sales are at 40 million and 360 sales are at 44 million and 360 was released a year earlier. So the PS3 is already selling more than 360 per year.

the world has spoken..the 360 has won..its been outselling everything for a year. It is the one and only console you should get.

While I wont argue that, checked the numbers for previous years a while ago. I will argue that the xbox 360 is inferior tech wise and performance wise. You can argue until you are blue in the face it wont change the facts. Show me a game that looks better than god of war 3? But if you want to get down to it, the ps3 has more graphic ability than the xbox, and it's a fact. I don't care about silly arguments but come on. Im not a fanboy and have almost every generation (besides this and last gen) owned every console since I was a kid.

I still have the TurboGrafx-16 next to the pc, wii, ps3..etc But If we leave these arguments out of it can I ask you an honest question? Who in the hell wants to pay extra for every little thing. Hey I want the ability to get online with the console "okay here buy this for an exorbitant amount", Hey I want to play online now with my new wifi/nic adapter I just bought "oh okay buy an xbox live gold membership for XX amount"… I want to play hd movies "buy this", I want to replace my xbox that just stopped working "sorry youll have to buy another"… list goes on and on. Each new service in the future will have sub-service charges to do even the most basic crap.

It's a joke but in the end the graphics are still worse. I wont say it's ten times worse or anything like that but they are just not as good. Also why is the CEO of microshaft ditching over a billion dollars worth of his stock? Just something to keep in mind.

Has the Kinect backlash already started?

I hope the Kinect does not suck too much to cause a major backlash against the video game industry.

Please .. Kinect is floppity flop flop. I was a Best buy this weekend and yell "look it's Wii Too!" which was met by lots of laughs. One guy pointed out loudly and correctly you could get the whole wii for about the same money. Needless to say it they had tons remaining. Sales guy said it was helping to sell Wii's.

No controller.. dohh! what were those idiots thinking?…

@Zola how did I get a hard slap across the face I didn't I pointed out that Flagg was wrong and T.L. backed me up on that.

While I agree that the PS3 has more graphic ability than the Xbox until they take a lot more advantage of this the fact is irrelevant. Apparently Ballmer was getting rid of a lot of his stock as tax rules are changing in the US which means he wouldn't make as much money if he sold them sometime next year needless to say I would imagine he would rather keep them as he should think they would increase in value banking on Kinect being a success.

@Dave s you can't tell if it is a flop yet it hasn't been released worldwide yet and no numbers have been released one store doesn't say much when compared to the rest of the globe. And by calling them idiots you are implying you were smarter… if you were half as smart as these people you would be successful which you obviously aren't when you speak like Homer Simpson.

Bottom Line Xbox360 came out over 1 year before PS3, Do the math by years makes PS3 top sales. I just think Xbox360 people are bullheaded, and kind of retarded for paying $60 a year for live to play online.. and its bull that xbox fans says live is better they just dont want to say they are retarded for paying to play..I have a friend had a Xbox 360 and went out and picked up a PS3 because after he played my PS3 he thinks its a great console and its free to play online … So 360 feel stuck because they already have a 360 and dont have a open mind..I make a good income and i could buy a 360 also, but i never would because why??? 360 is no better and live is no better …..before i would pay $60 a year for live I would donate $60 bucks to the poor. or flush it down the toilet because that what 360 live fans do.
