Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few weeks you are probably aware that the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton takes place this Friday. The whole country has been getting ready, especially people planning to travel to London for the event. According to mxData this has resulted in unprecedented spikes in people downloading London underground maps, it seems they want to plan their route to try and beat the inevitable clues.
David James, CEO, mxData, said: “The majority of downloads tend to take place at key London stations such as Kings Cross St Pancras and Waterloo. Interestingly, over the past week we have seen an unusual spike in downloads of our popular Tube Map app from all areas outside the capital, which indicates that an overwhelming number of well-wishers are preparing to come to see the Royal couple marry.”
Some of the most popular stations include ones close to the official route the happy couple will take including Green Park, Westminster, Hyde Park Corner, Embankment and Charing Cross. Apparently extra staff will be laid on to organise queues and funnel commuters around the busiest tube stations.
If you plan on travelling to London and want a good interactive tube map mxData have apps for the iPhone, Android, Symbian and blackberry handsets.
