Skype users have once again taken to twitter to report Skype has gone down for the second time within a week. The problem isn’t isolated either, users across the globe are reporting problems and when we checked we were also unable to sign in, for reference gadgets and gizmos is based in the UK.
Unlike last week, Skype has yet to explain the downtime which has left users oblivious as to what has gone wrong. Many have turned to Twitter to share their news, some people seem pretty relaxed about the whole thing, others angry and some tweeps are just searching for a laugh.
@Cynicalgrinch said: “Skype becomes Australian, goes down under”. Which didn’t really point the finger at anybody, although some users area already making the link between Microsoft’s purchase of Skype last month. @ajmunn said “Skype down again. Microsoft, do you need to break everything?”
Others seemed to sympathize with MS, “#skype is completely down again. I do hope Microsoft kept the receipt”. But the comedy moment has to go to @Hamey: “Skype down…maybe they’re updating it to Skype Plus Home Users Basic Advanced Edition, Service Pack 4”.
At this stage it appears as if a large majority of users are facing Skype downtime, although nothing is clear.
If you are facing downtime, feel free to let us know what errors you are facing and where you are in the world below. Also what IM or video calling service are you turning to instead?

Yeup, down in Aus – just bought 10 GBP of new credit as well – so their billing system is still operational … but no phone calls home tonight. Pretty grueling. For what I need – skype is like my only international mobile, so its pretty debilitating with it switched off.
If anyone has a better video calling programme, please, please, speak up..
Playtesting mo-call at the moment, other than an annoying (low credit – please top up) reminder, it seems to work pretty well.
Skype is completely down for my whole office and all of my offsite clients in Cape Town, South Africa.
@Tina, you could try google talk
Yea, been having troubles all day. It's keeps trying to connect online, but then my computer would state that it needs to be shut down. /shrug. Anyways, just relaying what I've experienced.

It's down in China, too. And it's not the great firewall this time which is to blame
