Japanese electronics giant Sony has confirmed rumors of a slimmer PlayStation 3 with the announcement of a new model at this year’s Tokyo Game Show.
The new PlayStation 3 model is now 20 percent lighter and 25 percent slimmer than the previous model. The new ultra-slim PlayStation 3 comes in two different models: 250 GB and 500 GB, which will allow users to store more games and media files to the console.
“In order to maintain the superior gaming experiences that you expect from us here at PlayStation, we are always looking for ways to change and evolve with your gaming behavior,” posted John Koller, Sony’s director for Hardware Marketing, in the Playstation Blog. “You might remember the smaller models that we launched for PlayStation 2 and PSP (PlayStation Portable), and we know that many of you love the opportunity to add these streamlined models to your home.”
Sony will also be launching a 12 GB flash memory model on October 12th. The 12 GB PlayStation will offer users opportunities to experience playing the console at an affordable price. The memory can be expanded with the use of a dedicated 250 GB HDD, which will be released with the new PS3.
Europe will be the first ones to get their hands on the new ultra-slim PlayStation 3, which will be released on September 28. The 500 GB model will cost around €299.99.
