Sprint’s October 7th event fuels iPhone 5 Release Date Speculation

Although Sprint is remaining silent about reports that they will be teaming up with Apple for its upcoming release of the iPhone 5 this autumn, the Wall Street Journal said that the deal between the two companies was imminent. In addition, it also noted that Sprint will be releasing the iPhone 5 in mid-October, at the same time that Verizon Wireless and AT&T.

Now, according to a leaked memo published by SprintFeed, managers at Sprint want the company’s employees to remain quiet and downplay reports that they may be selling the highly-anticipated smartphone in October.

The memo, which was sent out to All Dealers, said, “Action Required — Do Not Speculate about Sprint Getting the iPhone. If you are asked by a customer or by friends and family members, you need to avoid making any comments about the iPhone and simply state ‘no comment.'”

Just recently, the company sent out press invites to a “Strategy Update” event that will take place on October 7th. The event will feature presentations by the carrier’s senior management, as well as a Q&A session. Tech website This is My Next suggested that it is likely to be about the company’s 4G network plans, but it could have a presentation about the iPhone 5 and its impending release date.

“We’d be surprised if this was the event to announce it, but the past month of tech news has been crazy enough that anything could happen,” it wrote.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5 this autumn, with the latest rumors talking about a mid-October launch date. Some reports said that the upcoming iPhone will be a “world phone,” capable of connecting to both CDMA an GSM networks.

The UK iPhone release date is usually a few weeks behind our US brethren which would suggest a November release date is possible, unless Apple is planning a rather ambitious global rollout.

Do you think the iPhone 5 should be a multi-network phone and would you like to see it released globally at the same time?

There is no iPhone 5. Apple have never confirmed another iPhone and as an employee of a tier 1 carrier, we have had NO information about an iPhone for 2011. We have an SLA with Apple for at least 2 months notice for a new item as it takes this long to add this to our network. The future's not that bright…
