Thomas Edison 164th Birthday Celebrated with Google Doodle

Posted on Feb 10 2011 - 11:55pm by Richard Sharp

Today is Thomas Alva Edison’s 164th Birthday and to mark the occasion Google has created a brand new Doodle. The Doodle shows some of Edison’s most famous inventions which has been animated using a series of 22 jpg images.

The Doodle shows a blinking light bulb in the place of the letter L, the incandescent light bulb was one of Edison’s most important inventions and revolutionised the way people lit their homes and more importantly paved the way for more inventions and technology.

Edison wasn’t a one trick pony though; he holds 1,093 US patents plus patents in the UK, France and Germany. He opened a commercial electric station in New York City that served 85 customers, owned one of the first film studios called “Black Maria” and many other achievements that would make modern day inventors blush.

The Doodle has moving belts, a flashing light bulb and other moving elements but it is all done in a nostalgic way – a fitting tribute to a man who gave birth to the earliest versions of today’s modern marvels.

The new Doodle comes just three days after another fitting tribute to Jules Verne, web users around the globe will wake up today to appreciate one the greatest inventors of all time. Happy Birthday to Thomas Edison – the original gadget inventor.

The Great Scientist, who flinged out the darkness, through his invention of Light Bulb. His invention is now has very great value and being used, anywhere and everywhere. He was a Nightingale to our dark society. Very proud of him, that he is one among our community (Human). I Salute The Great Progenitor, on his 164th Birthday, now.
