The astonishing success of the WhatsApp app has seen over a billion people download it, with some 42 billion messages being sent every single day.
As if that wasn’t enough, reports now suggest that the app can also support video calls. The feature has been added to the latest beta update (2.163.318) and some users have also reported gaining the video calling facility without downloading the update.
You can tell that you have this feature on your WhatsApp by the fact that you will see a small camera icon alongside your contacts. You can video call using this, providing that the person you are calling also has the feature as well.
Not the First Time They Have Tried
This isn’t the first time a video calling facility has been added to WhatsApp. It was previously added as a beta back in May but never made it any further.
While some other chat and messaging apps already offer video calling, not all of them do. For instance, while Facebook’s Messenger app offers this service, it isn’t yet available on the likes of Signal or Telegram.
The video calling process is simple on WhatsApp. All that you have to do to launch it is select the video call option next to the contact that you want to get in touch with. It will let you know if you can’t make the call due to the other person needing to update their app.
Do you think that this could be the move that finally makes video calling something that we all do on a daily basis?
