Doesn’t time fly when it comes to the world of games consoles? It seems like only yesterday that the original PlayStation came out and now there is talk of the 4th generation model appearing soon.
In fact, it was way back in the mid 1990s when we first saw this classic console . It was at a recent event in New York that Sony announced to the world that the PlayStation 4 would be coming in the holiday season this year, with many analysts taking this to mean a pre Christmas launch.
A Tough Market
The console’s predecessor, which was unsurprisingly called the PlayStation 3, has sold 75 million units since going on sale in 2006. However, the 4th generation PlayStation will be up against stiff competition in the face of the Nintendo Wii U and the new Microsoft Xbox 360 replacement. It won’t be backwards compatible with the PS3 or earlier generations.
The word from Sony is that the new console will have some big games designed for it, such as Destiny. This is the shared world shooter from Bungie which will have exclusive content in the PS4 version.
A big success ids badly needed for the electronics giant after it posted a 4th successive annual loss. The price of the new console hasn’t yet been revealed and we don’t even know what it will look like yet.
We do know is that it will be like a “supercharged” computer, or at least that it what the guys at Sony are calling it. It will use an x86- based CPU and a DualShock 4 controller with a lightbar which controls a tracking camera.
