Xbox 360 games may be compatible with Windows 8

Reports say that PC’s will have the ability to play Xbox 360 games using Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 platform.

According to a report by Insideris, Microsoft is planning to bring Xbox 360 gaming to its upcoming Windows 8 OS. Users who want to play Xbox games using their PCs will have to subscribe to its service (similar to Xbox Live).

According to Insideris, Mike Delman, vice president of global marketing for Microsoft, said: “Live has been successful on the Windows Phone. Live will be built into the PC. It will be the service where you get your entertainment. We were talking about it — you will not just see consoles and handhelds at this show next year, this show’s going to morph into other devices.”

What’s bad about this is there will be no PC to Xbox 360 cross-platform games because of the mouse’s advantage over the Xbox 360 controller. Rumors also say that Microsoft is working on this problem, but we’ll never know until it is officially announced.

In an attempt to make PC games relevant, Microsoft has merged its Games for Windows under the Xbox.com domain.

It seems that Microsoft is doing the right move by offering Microsoft exclusives to a wider audience, instead of just console players. The company is also aiming to extend the lifespan of its Xbox 360 service before it unveils the next-generation Xbox console (called by many as Xbox 720).

Is it profitable for Microsoft to bring its Xbox 360 games to PCs?

Looks like gaming consoles will be a thing of the past and cloud gaming will replace them.

Pointless direction, playing proper 360 games on a PC will be software emulation at best, there's no way i am paying £40-£50 to play a software emulated game..especially if i have to also pay a subscription fee for the priveledge

@Mark, That actually isn't true at all.

The new SDK is cross platform and it will compile for whatever device you need.

It spans windows phones, xbox and pc's.
