Internet search giant Google has now updated its Google Street View to take netizens on a virtual tour of areas in Japan that were affected by a magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami last March. Google said that this was a fulfillment of the company’s initiative to archive the affected areas in Japan. “Today, we’re making good on that promise — after driving more than 44,000 kilometers through the affected regions, 360-degree panoramic imagery of those areas is now available through the Street View feature in Google Maps,”...

News surfaced a while back that Google is working on a new Nexus phone. Now, according to reports, Google’s first phone that will run the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS will be called ‘Nexus Prime,’ and will be manufactured by Samsung, kind of sounds like a Transformers robot – which is obviously cool. According to reports, the display will feature a Super AMOLED HD display, with a 720p resolution. The Nexus Prime is said to have a dual-core 1.2 GHz or 1.5 GHz OMAP 4460 processor. Google’s Nexus Prime will...

Last month the first news snippets came out surrounding Googles contender to Facebook’s like button, the +1 service works in the same way as the Facebook like button and will soon be available for websites. Web masters and site owners will be able to select from 7 different variations of button to fit in with the look and feel of their page, some will come with counters whilst others will literally just display the +1 logo. This is the exact same format offered by Facebook, Twitter and other social bookmarking sites such as Digg...

Those of you who have logged into Google calendars today may have noticed it looks more like a rainbow rather than a calendar. Google has announced that events can now be colour coded to make organising your life a breeze. The illustration on the official Google blog simply shows different events in different colours, this can prove useful when organising different genres of events or even different people on the same calendar. For example you could shade all work based events in red, social events in green and personal appointments in...

The rumour a while back was that Google was going to buy the daily deals site Groupon. For whatever reason that never happened so Google decided to set up their own rival daily deal site, and now Google Offers is just about ready to use. The stunning success of Groupon has made it one of the fastest growing companies ever and has brought a slew of similar sites to the internet, with Google the latest to get in on the act. We first heard about Google Offers at the start of the year and now it has moved into the beta testing phase. It is...

Now that the dust has settled on the Google changes which came with the so called Panda update we are starting to see which sites have moved up the rankings and which have taken a hit. A few of the big winners are in the field of heavyweight news providers such as the BBC, the Times Online and the Telegraph. Other sites which are now more visible than before include YouTube and Yahoo. But what about the losers? One of the factors which now seems clear is that the Panda changes have badly affected sites which contain content identical...

A new Google service looks like it could completely change the way we look for sites on the world’s largest search engine. The idea is called Google +1 and it is going to work a bit like the Facebook option to “like” something. As you look at the results which pop up on screen you can add the +1 symbol to anything which you want to recommend to your friends, It is possible that the activity on this feature will be added in the Google search algorithm at some point in the future but at the moment putting a +1 next to the search results...

At 01:05 GMT Apple iPhone users started reporting problems when accessing Google either via the Google homepage or built in search bar. Sure enough when i checked my iPhone had the same problem. Turning to Twitter users were reporting a similar problem. @joshsecrest said “why do I get a 404 error on my iPhone?”. Another said “anyone else notices google is down on their iPhone?” It seems that both the iPad and iPod touch are not affected by the problem but all models of the iPhone are. A 404 error occurs when a...

The guys over at Gmail will be having a hectic day today as users have been flocking to the support forums all day to report that their email accounts have effectively been reset with some losing year’s worth of emails. Thankfully Google engineers are on the case and should be able to restore affected accounts as they quite sensibly store data on several drives in several different locations – the problem they have is identifying the accounts. Engadget says 500,000 users may have been affected; users have lost emails and all the photos,...

It seems Google is intent on dominating all electronic space as rumours start emerging that they are to launch their own music subscription channel which could go into direct competition with Apple. Like most good rumours this one has yet to be confirmed or denied by Apple but it comes from another giant, Motorola. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha spilled the beans when delivering a speech at MWC 2011. Jha was giving a sales pitch on the strengths of the Xoom tablet and future developments which he says will include both music and video services...
