Google has revealed that their Chrome operating system will be available before the end of the year. The search giant released the information to TechCrunch explaining that they are certain their OS will be available in 2010. It was previously thought that Chrome would launch in unison and be installed on the fabled ‘Chromebook’ devices, this however seems to be inaccurate with the report saying the OS is more likely to launch as a Beta this year in preparation of a plethora of Google devices in 2011. At the Web 2.0 conference Eric...

Google has agreed to remove all the data and personal details scraped via their Street View cars from UK homeowners Wi-Fi routers. For some unknown reason they have 9 months to do so, imagine what can be done with that loose data in 9 months – hmm. The whole saga started some months ago when news broke that Google had been collecting personal data (accidentally) and decided to take their Street View cars temporarily out of commission. When they resumed Google stuck with plain old photography but admitted to previously collecting peoples...
The Google doodle is becoming quite a common feature on the world’s biggest search engine and I for one enjoy waking up to see a fresh new logo on the Google homepage. Saturday 13th November saw the big G celebrate the 160th birthday of Robert Louis Steven Stevenson. Stevenson is the genius writer who penned classic stories such as Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Kidnapped and perhaps most famous of all Treasure Island – which is also the inspiration behind today’s doodle. The doodle is created on a scroll, much like a traditional treasure...
Have you noticed an extra icon on your Google homepage today? A small magnifying glass now sits on the right hand side of Google instant search results – giving an instant preview of a website. The service is rolling out over 40 countries in the next few weeks but has already officially landed in some parts of the UK. When users click on the magnifying/eye glass a screenshot of the website is shown without the need to even visit the site – hence the name ‘Instant Previews’. Users can also use the right arrow key to perform the...
We admit that Google maps is an awesome thing, we bet that everyone has used it in one way or another. That said like with most great things at some point there will be problems, this week it seems Google has caused quite a stir between Costa Rica and Nicaragua by showing a different border line than the actual one. This has caused the online community to doubt the accuracy of the borders on Google maps. A Google representative said, “It’s inevitable that there will be occasional errors in that data, but when we find these...
Google has put an exclusive doodle/logo up today in celebration of the classic cartoon Scooby doo. The doodle includes five slides featuring the stars from the children’s TV show that many of us grew up with. The first slide shows three trick or treater’s running from a spooky looking pink ghost, to us it looks like the menace might be after the kiddies sweets. The second slide shows Fred busily looking for clues (he finds a trail of treats) while Shaggy and Scooby do what they do best, eat Scooby snacks. Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne,...
