Motorola Xoom UK Release Date Confirmed by DSG Email

Posted on Apr 10 2011 - 11:49pm by Richard Sharp

UK consumers who have pre-ordered the Motorola Xoom initially thought that their long awaited tablet would be delivered on Friday 8th April. That date came and went but a new email from PC World has suggested that Xoom pre-orders will start to roll out on Monday.

One of our readers, Darrell Metcalfe sent us a copy of an email from DSG Retail who own and operate PC World, Curry’s and Dixons. It began: “We are delighted to tell you that we will begin delivery of all pre-orders of the Motorola Xoom on Monday of next week.”

The email also tries to explain the delay, “After a short delay for final testing, Motorola and Google are now absolutely certain that the Xoom WiFi is the best tablet money can buy.” The full email can be seen on the screenshot below, just click on the image to enlarge.

Although the email does seem to be rather informal it definitely came from a verified email address. So it seems some lucky UK residents will receive their Xoom Monday 11th onwards. The email also points out that customers who paid £499.99 for the Xoom will receive £20 in an automatic refund with no further action needed on their part.

I have received the same email – not sure I like the rather loose "we will begin…"

Also the PC World website has not been updated, and still claims delivery on 9th April!

Well I also pre-ordered and haven't had any such email. I just phoned customer support only to be told that all the stock has been put on hold for a week and even then its not guaranteed to be released. Very poor of PC world not keeping their customers informed and also the fact that the website is allowing people to "BUY" the product with "HOME DELIVERY" but not mentioning the indefinite delay.

I received an email on Thursday 7th April stating there could be a slight delay andf I would be contacted to "discuss" what happens next. No idea of how long the delay would be.

So far no further email or contact.

I phoned Dixons today to be told by "Customer Services" that Motorola had not made deliveries of stock available. Last Friday they knew NOTHING!!

Seems that different stories for whoever calls / contacts them –

I noticed today the Dixon's website shows 12th April instead of 9th so I suppose that's something.

very poor communication all around I'm afraid.

They took our money quickly enough I note!!

ALL Websites (Currys; Dixons and PC World) are now taking orders for purchase without delay (include reserve and collect). No longer showing expected delivery dates.

    Maybe there are rumblings!!

    Fingers; Legs and eyes crossed!!

I agree with Also Annoyed…. very poor communication but I guess now they have our money who needs to be contacted!!! At this rate I think we'd be better off canceling our orders and poping into a store to pick one up…… if I knew it would be available else where I know I'd do this.

"Where in the world…… NOT Pc World"

  6. Tired of excuses April 11, 2011 at 4:38 pm - Reply

I phoned pc world earlier after a no show of a delivery today to be given some excuse that the back log was caused by the earthquake in Japan and not to expect delivery until the 16th.

  7. Johndo April 11, 2011 at 7:35 pm - Reply

I called PC world today and was told that stock is arriving in their main depot tonight. They said i probably wouldn't get a delivery until thursday!! (14th) I guess you all noticed on PC worlds website than when you pre-order you can't populate the option to pick up in store. It has to be home delivery. I guess we should all take a couple of weeks off work to be there when it's delivered!

  8. ugh! April 11, 2011 at 9:21 pm - Reply

No such email for me! pre ordered two weeks ago, phoned today for the second time and was quoted delivery would be from the 16th…….. Onwards!!

Nice one Pcworld! you where a mess behind the scenes when I worked for you and it looks like nothing has changed now!

I agree, everyone gets a different excuse, I was told they had them (in front of me) by one person, no calls no email, after several calls and emails feedback has been VERY poor, (exactly what we have come to expect from this group.. where in the world …(every where else.. apparently..) I got an email from a mate, the shops are saying Next week (after Saturday)

I pre-ordered mine 2 weeks ago from Currys; and nothing…. No Email, No Courtesy call either; I contacted them on 8th, who told me DHL do not deliver weekends, so I will receive on 11th, just to be told again on 11th that it wouldn't be in stock till 12th, my surprise came when I contacted them again this morning just to be told that Motorola has extended the release date by a week, and I will not receive till next Monday or later… Totally unacceptable; its obvious from the above reasons that the CS reps have no idea too… What a crap way to run a business, and further more there is no release date on their websites now; so you can order for home delivery; surely this should be updated with the comments we receive from their CS reps and no more orders should be taken till the date is confirmed.

I am also in shock that they have debited the total funds from my account on a pre-order even though they couldnt meet the original delivery date.

    Crap! Crap and Crap!

PC World also took my money promptly. Nothing from customer services. Terrible communication and service.

Just got off the phone to Dixons regarding this Farce.

the "Customer services" person was not even aware that the Website was showing "In Stock". They spoke with a Manager who delivered yet more BS – "we are awaiting confirmation that the stock which was expected overnight is now available".

I was then informed that I could expect an email within 24-48 hours. (I note they are still accepting orders!!)

    This is a total disgrace.

I should just point out that I preordered on 5th March and so far except for removing funds IMMEDIATELY from my account I have had zero useful information despite 5 calls to "Customer Services"

Just been to Motorolas UK Site. Apparently you can now purchase Xoom from Currys/Dixons and PCWorld….Strange eh!!

Either Motorola or Dixons are lying through their teeth.

Motorola state Xoom available but Dixons state no deliveries yet although their site supports Motorola's position (In stock) This communication thing is a useful tool …..when used correctly or at all.

What a mess. This will be the last time I buy anything from the Dixons group. They have been getting bad recently – this is awful.

I've just received an email from Currys to say my pre-ordered Xoom has been despatched. I checked the reference number with the courier's site and that confirms it has been collected from DSG.

When did you pre-order please? (Just picking at straws!!)

  16. Odyseus April 12, 2011 at 3:53 pm - Reply

At least this means they have stock? Anyone received a despatch email from PC World?

  17. Cloud Skimmer April 12, 2011 at 4:31 pm - Reply

    I pre-ordered on-line 5th March, confirmed by Currys 7th March.
Rang them twice yesterday evening, having received the email last week from Dixons as referred to above '…begin delivery of all pre-orders….on monday of next week.'
The first Customer service guy said he'd check and call me back. I chased an hour later and was told I would reveive an e-mail when the Xoom was despatched and should get it in the next "3 to 5 days".

They say if you give enough Monkeys typewriters you'll eventually get Shakespeare…………

Maybe that goes for CR operators too ?? Someone will get truth soon.

At least they have started dispatching. Good luck to all and enjoy your new Toys!!

Nothing from my PC World pre-order yet….. I did only pre-order a few weeks ago though so perhaps they've only got enough stock for a few orders.

Seeing as their the same group do you think they will ship the orders from the same warehouse and use the same courier? Would just be my luck that mine would be shipped just before a weekend and going by previous posts that it should arrive on a Saturday only to find DHL don't deliver on a Saturday….. or even worse over the bank holiday weekend.

At least we now know things are moving but pretty jealous of those that have some good news 🙂

  20. shurcomb April 12, 2011 at 7:22 pm - Reply

Yep, received my email end of last week telling me they were shipping on Monday, Now Tuesday evening and still no confirmation from PC World about a dispatch of the order. I ordered on March 13th so hoping they will ship mine fairly soon.

I was sceptical about ordering from PC World/DSG as they are generally crap at customer services and supplying anything on time, but they seem to have the exclusivity on supply for the first few weeks so no real option!
just frustrated and dissapointed with overall communication and the fact they took the money straight away for a product on pre-order WTF!?!

fingers crossed it will turn up before the weekend otherwise I will be p*ssed off and end up buying one in store or at the gadget show exhibition on Saturday at the NEC! if at all possible.

I have just got an email with a tracking number – it shows it has been picked up from the DSG location so should be here tomorrow 🙂
They also refunded my £20 yesterday without me asking.

The xoom was delivered this morning at 9.00am in London. Pre-ordered with Curry. It has fully charged very quickly and tablet setup in less a minute. Connected to the internet and am already using the camera.
    Just beautiful

Ive just got off the phone from PC world. They received stock on Monday and are processing all the pre-orders so I should receive my Xoom in the next few days. "Keep checking your emails for a DHL tracker reference"she told me.
She said that Motorola had delayed the release / shipment for a week.
I asked how much stock they received. She wouldnt tell me but said that there was enough stock to cover all pre-orders first before sending out any new orders received after Monday.
Very frusted now as I was expecting to receive it last Friday. But hey, I was kind of expecting this level of customer service if Im honest! Hope the info is of help to you all.

FYI….. PC World and Currys have them in stock and available to buy over the counter. So much for pre-orders getting them before anyone else!!! Guess I'll be waiting until tomorrow….or Friday at the latest.

As per one of my last comments "First & Last Time I Pre-Order From PC World".

    • CommonSense April 13, 2011 at 8:20 pm - Reply

stores do NOT have them in stock. so stop being an idiot and get a grip. if your philosophy is to never buy from somewhere if they dont give you 1st class service then you better open your own business because you wont be able to shop anywhere.

      • Seanus April 14, 2011 at 1:51 pm - Reply

Stores do. Just got one from currys.
