E3 2011 may have just finished but already attention has turned to next years event. Nintendo announced and showed off the Wii U at last weeks conference and if rumours are true, Microsoft will do exactly the same with a new Xbox in 2012.
The guys over at videogamer have been talking with a ‘high ranking source’ from Crytec. The developer, who remains anonymous, says he is working with a developers version of the machine for Timesplitters 4. This supports last months rumours which suggested a cloaked version of the new Xbox, let’s call it the Xbox 720, is in the hands of developers.
The Xbox 720 is likely to feature DirectX 11, it is rumored that Crytec’s CryEngine 3 could also be used. The well trusted source couldn’t reveal any specs for the next-gen console but did explain that high quality visuals with radically improved tessellation effects will make gameplay a much more in-depth experience.
This would mean that Microsoft plans to release their new console ahead of Sony, a factor that gave them a head start with the Xbox 360. At this stage neither Microsoft or Crytec have commented on the news, when we spoke with our regular Xbox PR rep he simply gave the usual line of, ‘we don’t comment on speculation’.
Would you like to see a new Xbox console next year?
