On the 16th March the annual Video Gaming BAFTA’s took place, all the big wigs and some of the small wigs of the gaming industry came together to celebrate the best games of 2010. Unsurprisingly Call of Duty: Black Ops took home the highly coveted Game Award – the only award voted for by the paying public which means in many peoples eyes makes it the most important.
This is the third year in a row that the game has won the award meaning Activision and Treyarch haven’t let the franchise down despite initial teething problems that required a patch. That seems to be a distant memory for many, especially when you consider over $1 billion worth of Black Ops has been sold since November. Other games of note included Heavy Rain which won three Gaming BAFTAs, one for the best original music, storyline and technical innovation. Not a bad effort at all, they certainly seemed happy with the result judging by the pictures and comments posted on their website.
The ‘Best Game’ BAFTA was awarded to Mass Effect 2, when presenting the award it was described by the judging panel as the “combined achievement of technology, art, design [and] audio… a beautiful complete gaming experience.”
These are just three of the awards, granted three of the biggest all going to first person shooters. Do you think the best games won?
