Facebook 1.9 Arrives on Blackberry Mobile Handsets

Blackberry owners whose own handsets running at least 4.5 can now download the updated version of the Facebook application from Blackberry App World.

The updates include the ability to read messages in a list, a tidy up of your friends list and users can now search for people and places. The most notable update has to be the inclusion of Facebook places.

The service, which in many ways is similar to FourSquare allows users to ‘check in’ their location on their wall using the built in GPS on their Blackberry handset.

This allows users friends to see exactly where you are, some see this as a neat feature where as others think it is an invasion of privacy – either way the function is under complete control of the user (so if you don’t like it, don’t use it).

A big omission is Facebook chat, iPhone users can already use this feature and it is rumoured that it will come to Blackberry users in the very near future.

What do you think of the new update?

Love it! The Blackberry app needed to be updated for ages and finally now is a straightforward application that has all the functionality I need and includes the Places feature. I love it.

The new app delivered hundreds of old (months old) fb notifications that cannot be deleted. Also, the fb alerts no longer go to my computer but only to the BB curve (8330). Anyone have any insight as to how to fix this? Thanks!
